This drink is a big hit with both your “whisky on the rocks” and “foo-foo fruity cocktail” friends.

This is one of my top three cocktails. It has a unique flavor profile that is a big hit with both your “whisky on the rocks” and “foo-foo fruity cocktail” friends. It is also a super easy way to make and perfect for batch cocktails to serve at a party.

Blood & Sand Recipe

Combine equal parts of the following ingredients over ice:

  • Whisky: I recommend a Smoky Scotch Whiskey (any Isle Scotch, like Laphroig, or Johnnie Walker Double Black) or a Smoky Boubon (I love High West Campfire!)
  • Cherry Herring (or another cherry liqueur if you can’t find it)
  • Good quality sweet vermouth (make sure you use a new bottle or one that has been properly stored – vermouth is vinted and will go bad if it isn’t refrigerated after opening)
  • Good quality orange juice

Stir with ice rapidly for at least 50 turns. Serving a rocks glass over a large ice cube, garnished with a Luxardo cherry and/or orange (blood orange if you can find it).
