This is a healthy alternative to potato chips – even my six year old loves them!

You’ll love my easy kale chips recipe, especially if you have waited too long to use your kale and it’s become a little wilted. You can easily turn your old kale into crunchy, snackable kale chips in no time!

Easy Kale Chips – Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch of kale
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Garlic salt (to taste)
  • 1 Sprinkling of crushed red pepper or any other seasoning of your choice

Pro Tip: Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or foil ahead of time.

Instructions:

1. Wash, dry and de-stem your kale

2. Tear into pieces and place on a baking sheet (I line mine with foil or parchment for easy clean up)

3. Drizzle with olive oil and massage kale well until it is fully coated

4. Evenly spread the kale and sprinkle with garlic salt, crushed red pepper or any other seasoning of your choosing

5. Air Fryer Instructions: Bake at 400 F for 15-20 mins total – after the first 10 min, toss and return to the oven for an additional 5-10 min or until crispy

Alternative method: I like mine a little charred. If you want it to be less charred, lower the temperature to 350 F and bake for 10 mins longer.

6. Standard Oven Instructions: No air fryer? No problem! Use the instructions in Step 5 and you’ll be good to go – an air fryer is essentially just the convection (or fan) feature on your oven. Essentially, fans blow the heat from the oven around to encircle the food – this can result in crisper food. This is likely why they started calling the standalone appliances with baskets air fryers. So the same temperature and time applies in a convection oven as it does in an air fryer.

Pro Tip: If your oven doesn’t have a convection or fan feature, just increase the temperature by 25 degrees Fahrenheit and follow the instructions in Step 5. This is a good rule of thumb to remember whenever you are trying to decide between regular and convection mode.

Alternative Flavors:

  • Grated parmesan
  • Nutritional yeast
  • Ranch dressing mix
  • Tahini, lemon juice, and some chickpeas (they will crisp up nicely too, so it will be like a snack mix)
  • Maple syrup and cinnamon
  • Apple cider or white vinegar for a “salt and vinegar” flavor
