Eco Friendly Household Products

Consider making the switch to eco-friendly products one of your New Year’s resolutions.

Like many people, I’ve been trying to cut down on waste without abandoning modern conveniences. Over the years, I have shifted to reusable products and subscriptions for eco-friendly versions of the household products we use the most. This not only helps the planet but also means less time shopping for boring household goods. It’s a win-win!

A) Compostable Plastic Bags

I subscribe to these Cleanomic compostable storage bags (I’ve found a great drawer storage system for a variety of their bag sizes) and these BagUps compostable garbage bags. I also want to give a shoutout to BagUps for their commitment to employing veterans and individuals with disabilities, so goodness all around!

B) Toilet Paper and Paper Towels

I’ve been a member of Who Gives a Crap for several years. Great product quality packaged in super cute decorative paper to jazz up your potty. One caveat: I hate their tissues; they are way too rough.

Rag Bag: I also recommend having a bag full of rags on hand in areas where you may need them, such as the kitchen, laundry room, and garage. This will keep you from reaching for the paper towels when the inevitable spill or leak occurs.

C) Laundry Detergent & Fabric Softener

I’ve been subscribed to BlueWater laundry sheets for many years. Their concentrated detergent sheets come in minimal packaging, effectively clean my clothes, and are easy to pack for longer trips.

I ditched traditional fabric softener years ago. My kids and I have sensitive skin that most softeners irritate and there have also been reports that the heavy scents contain unnecessary toxins. So I’ve been using dryer balls for the last few years and love them. They also help your clothes dry faster and more evenly.

D) Dishwasher Tablets

I subscribe to Blueland dishwasher tablets through Amazon. They work great and come in a cute refillable tin.

E) Diapers

You want to keep your baby comfortable and dry, but you also don’t want their diapers to contribute to landfills over time, creating a sort of stinky zombie army. That’s why I love Dyper. These diapers are made from bamboo and are hypoallergenic, making them perfect for sensitive skin. They are also compostable, so you don’t have to worry about a future of diaper waste piling up in landfills.

F) Coffee Mugs & Water Bottles

Favorite Insulated Mug for Home: I was gifted a Yeti coffee mug for speaking on a panel, and it has become my favorite mug for drinking coffee at home. It keeps my coffee nice and warm, so much so that I can nurse a coffee all morning long. Having a lid also helps reduce the risk of spills, which is especially important for me as a parent of two rambunctious boys (a much bigger concern than some of you may realize).

Favorite Travel Bottle: The Zojirushi is hands-down the best travel water or coffee bottle I’ve ever used. This bottle locks, so you can keep it from opening and spilling in your bag. It will also keep your beverage cold or hot all day long.
