Add this to your breakfast rotation – your kids will love it, and it might alleviate the guilt of the other garbage we feed our kids.
I don’t think I’m alone in the struggle to get my kids to eat nutritious food. The peanut butter, banana, and honey in this recipe pack such a flavor punch that I’m able to hide flax and kale, too! I’m sure I could hide other nutritious foods in here, too – adding frozen avocado would probably work great!
If you’re in need of a new blender, our Breville Super Q has really served us well, and we use it all the time.
Healthy PB&J Smoothie:
Ingredients:
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup frozen berries
- 1 cup frozen kale or spinach
- 2 tbsp ground flaxseed
- ½ cup Greek yogurt (I like Fage)
- ¼ cup peanut butter
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1-2 cups water or milk
- Optional: frozen or fresh avocado
Step-By-Step Video (shown above):
I’m using water because I didn’t have milk on hand, but choose your own adventure. You can hear that Jonas is pretty excited about his smoothie and has no idea how I’m getting him to eat his vitamins, omega-3s, and fiber. 😈
Recipe:
-
Combine all ingredients in a blender.
-
Add one cup of water or milk first, then add more as needed to blend.
-
Blend well so that there aren’t any clumps of frozen kale stuck in your straw.
-
Pour into your kid’s favorite cup (hopefully one with a lid) and enjoy!
