Stained Glass Watercolor Craft

When I host dinners for friends with kids, I like to have activities that the kids can do independently – so that they can have a great time and also leave us alone. LOL. I pulled this craft out recently and the kids loved it.

This Stained Glass Watercolor Craft is one of my favorite crafts for my kids. It completely elevates their art into something you actually want to hang up.

Stained Glass Watercolor Craft Materials:

  • Elmers Glue (or generic equivalent)
  • Black Acrylic Paint (You can also use other colors or skip the paint if you want white borders)
  • Watercolor paper and paint
  • Brushes

I. Prepare Items Ahead of Time (12 hrs in advance)

A) Prepare the glue paint: Empty out ⅓ of the glue and fill it with the paint. Shake until it is all mixed together….it will take some time, but look at it as an arm workout.

B) Draw Design: Use the glue paint to draw the outline of the design of your choice. I’ve made outlines of Spiderman when my son was really into that character or hearts for Valentine’s Day or random geometric shapes too.

C) Dry: Allow to dry for a minimum of 12 hours.

II. Stained Glass Watercolor Craft Time

A) Paint: Once the glue paint is dry, you are ready to paint with your watercolors.

B) Hack: If your kid can’t be trusted to not spill a cup of water, use a spray bottle to spray the paint palette.
