Do you have a kid who’s obsessed with Transformers? Here are some party ideas that won’t disappoint.
For his 6th birthday, my son requested a Transformers-themed party at Scramble (an indoor gymnasium in Virginia). Like many children’s birthday party venues, we only had a few minutes to set up and break down the party, and there were lots of restrictions (most decorations and outside food were prohibited). So, we are focusing on some very simple decorations, some super cool goodie bags, and some fun desserts that will help make your party special.
I. Goodie Bags and Decor
We were expecting about 20-24 kids, so we tried to find high-quality items at the best price that best aligned with these numbers. I tried to focus on fun stuff that the kids would actually play with, not the small plastic toys that would just end up in a junk drawer. View quick overview video here.
- Bags: We found this great variety pack of bags that include several different Transformer designs. The other alternative is using these sorts of clear bags – they display all of the fun goodies but need to be tied up to avoid spilling all over the place.
- Pencils and Sharpeners: Since these rising 1st graders will be focused on improving their writing, we bought these fun Transformer pencils and a brightly colored pencil sharpener.
- Surprise Eggs: Each egg contains a surprise mini-transformer. We bought some of these for Easter and my son treasures them and spends hours playing with them.
- Transformers: Transformer toys are pretty expensive, but I found a great deal on these little sets and my son has had a blast playing with them.
- Transformer Noise Maker: If you have ever seen Transformers, you know that they make a signature sound when they transform. I included one of these accordion fidget toys in each bag because they make a fun sound that is reminiscent of the transformer noise and can be a fun addition to the imaginary play with the other toys.
- Tattoos and Stickers: Kids this age love temporary tattoos and stickers. Here are a few that we liked: sticker sheets; individual stickers; and temporary tattoos.
II. Desserts
Cutting a cake at these kid birthday zones is a bit annoying…you need to bring a knife and somehow keep it away from a bunch of crazy kids, you are generally herding the kids into their seats, and carrying desserts over a sea of little heads on flimsy party plates. So, we opted to go for Transformer cupcakes and cake pops – no cutting necessary and they can be displayed in a way that doubles as decor.
- Dessert Design Theme: The main colors for Transformers are red, blue, and yellow, so our cupcakes have those three colors of frosting and our cake pops are dipped in those three colors of chocolate. We also used these transformer molds to make fondant logos to adorn both the cupcakes and cake pops. This brings cohesion to the design and a clean, professional look.
